After our shower, Lucia quickly gets dressed back in her suit, pulling her damp hair into a ponytail. I weakly slip into some clean underwear and pull my reception dress from my tote bag, slipping it on. Lucia smiles, running her hand over my back as she buttons up her shirt, then grabs a toothbrush and toothpaste from the care basket and hands them to me.

Once I’m dressed, I slump back onto the sofa, weakly sliding on my shoes, jumping when there’s a knock at the door. The knob turns and Zariah enters the room, grinning at my flushed face.

“Poor you, Mia. I’m sure you’re going to be a very tired lady for your honeymoon,” she says, walking in and slamming the door. Lucia gargles and rinses, stepping out and grabbing her tie from the floor. Zariah rolls her eyes and walks over to Lucia to help her with it.

“I get your excitement, Lucia. But you have to keep it together for a few more hours. Laugh with your butch buddies, Zara and Anna, have your first dance with Mia, and cut the cake. After that, you can play with Mia’s ass all you want,” Zariah says with a wicked grin and I groan, clutching my belly.

“You can’t kill anyone at this reception, Lucia. Do you understand me? I know you, and I know hearing the words you’ve been so desperate for has changed you. I don’t give a shit. Make a mental note of who you want to kill and do it later, but don’t embarrass me in front of the press.” Lucia rolls her eyes as Zariah finishes the tie. Then she bends down, grabs Lucia’s suit jacket, and hands it to her.

“Behave yourself and I’ll see you in two weeks.” Zariah looks at me and mouths a “thank you” as if me telling Lucia that I love her has changed the Seven Families. She opens the door to the dressing room and Lucia steps out first, adjusting her suit. I weakly stand and make my way for the door, but Zariah stops me.

“Alright, you little cruel princess,” Zariah sneers, blocking my way. “You just made yourself a queen. You have no idea how powerful Lucia is, nor the power you hold. I want you to make yourself accustomed to that power.” I fold my arms over my chest, glaring at Zariah.

“I’m not listening to this. Move out of my way so I can get to my reception,” I snap, but Zariah just grins at me, continuing to block my way.

“Lucia likes being controlled. And you have the power out of all of us to control this woman. She is very powerful and unpredictable. But she can be tamed with the right woman. I’m counting on you to lose that bratty facade you’ve got going on and fulfill your duty to the Seven Families. If Lucia loses control over you, we are all dead.” Zariah says, and I see the seriousness in her eyes. I soften my expression and nod to her, then she steps aside and lets me through.
